Description: Senders pay a non-refundable fee to undergo an accreditation process which examines various aspects of the applicant's business and email marketing practices. If successful, the applicant is then accredited to send CertifiedEmail.

Using appropriate software (or tools provided by partner email marketing service and software providers) accredited senders are then able to attach CertifiedEmail tokens to their outgoing email. These tokens are recognized by selected ISPs, who then give the emails favorable delivery treatment (see below). A "per email" fee is charged for sending CertifiedEmail.

This differs from the traditional certification model, in that the sending source is not whitelisted. Instead, each email carries its own certification in the form of the CertifiedEmail token.

Benefits: Guaranteed inbox delivery at participating ISPs, automatic rendering of images and links (overriding any image blocking and link suppression), emails are marked with a blue ribbon envelope icon identifying the sender as authentic.

Reach: CertifiedEmail is supported by AOL, BT, Comcast, Cox Communications, Time Warner Cable's Road Runner, Verizon and AT&T, but check the Goodmail website for the latest list, as it changes.

In their own words:

Goodmail Systems' Senior Director of Industry Relations, Jordan Cohen, told me:

"Our senders delivered more than 1.7 billion Certified Email messages last month alone because of the powerful business results and increased customer trust and engagement they're able to derive from 100% guaranteed inbox delivery, full rendering of links and images, and the blue ribbon trust icon. These senders saw increases in click throughs of 20 - 35% and increases in total views/opens of up to 50%!"

"We're able to provide these unique benefits because CertifiedEmail is the only certification solution and model built on a proprietary technology platform, rather than being based on the public DNS infrastructure. Other solutions merely "flag" certain messages as certified in the form of a whitelist (ie a list of IP addresses) - but at the end of the day, ISPs and their customers receive these messages through the same "port of entry" as every other email sender and still have to try to separate them from the rest of the spam and other unwanted messages hitting their networks."

"Only CertifiedEmail establishes an entirely separate and entirely trustworthy entry-point to the inbox - a fast lane exclusively reserved for CertifiedEmail senders."

Additional notes: Goodmail has collaborations with various email marketing service providers. Check with your ESP to see if such a collaboration already exists and how you might benefit.
