Why people still spam

Unfortunately, it doesn't cast doubt on the sanity and intelligence of the spammers.
This research study indicates that stock spam works for the sender. And works well. They buy stock, tout it via spam and then sell it: earning a 5.79% return in a day or two.
They make that return because enough victims buy stock based on advice they get from a stranger in a spam email.
Nice work if you can get it. Provided you have the morals of a crow. Unfortunately for the victims, they seem to lose on the deal.
