Harry Potter and the best day to send emails

calendarCrushed and defeated, Lord Voldemort watched as Harry approached, wand in hand.

"Before I send you back to the abyss Voldemort, I have one question."

The dark lord grimaced, "No doubt you want to know why I killed your parents, Potter?"

"Actually no, I was wondering if you had any insights on the best day to send out email?"

"That I will never reveal!" cackled Voldemort, "But one thing I will tell you...Outlook 2007: that was me."

Who doesn't want to know the best day of the week to send out your email? Chad White reveals what the top retailers think of the subject and gives us a sneak preview of some of the latest stats.

Although it's good to know what others are doing, we all send out unique emails to unique audiences. Which is why I use the three-step decision process outlined in an earlier post for determining the right day.

Two more notes:

1. As if there weren't enough reasons to make your emails relevant, the more people want your email, the less you have to panic about the minutiae of sending times. Engaged and enthusiastic subscribers will seek out your email whenever you send it.

2. Interesting to observe how much later some people open your email. Perusing my own stats, I see opens coming anything up to 4 months after the initial email was sent.

I just knew the Dark Lord was responsible for Outlook 2007. It's obviously one of his horcruxes, so it much be destroyed!

Chad, you should do a tie in at your blog. How many retailers mention wizards before July is out.
