Grabbing and nurturing new subscribers

One of the few pleasures of life that isn't associated with a decreased life expectancy is seeing your subscriber numbers rise.Last week, I noted Chad White has a new report out on retailers and their sign-up practices. DestinationCRM has more details on the info contained in the report.
These include Chad's own comments on the diminishing use of sign-up incentives. Plus a list of current and emerging best practices for subscription forms and welcome messages.
Which leads us nicely to Chad's newest insights from the world of retail email. This time he looks at onboarding emails...the first few emails that a new subscriber sees after the initial welcome message.
He notes that most retailers fail to send a special series of emails to new subscribers, instead simply dropping them (often with a bump) into the existing stream of email promotions and newsletters.
The article goes on to describe some of the approaches taken by more enlightened retailers, and includes Chad's own suggestions for what to put in those initial emails.
