Can't avoid bacn anymore

a pigI know plenty of people who shudder at the word Bacn...the new jargon for the kind of transactional and commercial email that people accept is a necessary part of online life, but aren't that desperate to read.

(Of course, it's the email marketer's job to change that perspective by making Bacn engaging and valuable to the recipient.)

But along with a Wikipedia listing, Bacn now has official acknowledgment from the great Google, with a dedicated post at the Gmail blog.

For more on why Bacn is good for email marketing, read this post from a week ago and the comments after it.

Just a thought really whilst reading your view on making "Bacn engaging and valuable to the recipient".
I think that Bacn is probably going to fall upon the most receptive eyes by mobile internet users. As around 75% of companies in the UK have blocked social networks in the workplace, and with a high number also blocking free email accounts, you will see that a lot of people will check emails at lunch time on their mobiles instead. Maybe making Bacn a much more valuable piece of information to people in this situation as they will feel more inclined to see who has contacted them etc.

Interesting thought Alex. I never really gave much mind to the topic of corporate website blocking. But clearly that adds another layer of complexity to the whole issue of email user habits!
