Avoid subscriber's remorse

remorseful dogThere is no undo function on a "subscribe" button.

Except there is. It's called "report spam."

Just like some buyers regret the purchase right after paying, so some subscribers regret the sign-up before you've even had a chance to prove your emails' worth. An unsubscribe or spam report follows.

This new article over at the main site details eight tactics you can use to prevent subscriber's remorse.

Got any other suggestions? Just post them in the comments...

Good stuff as always Mark - but unless I missed it you may have left out the most obvious one and that is to use a double opt-in/confirmed opt-in subscription process that requires the prospective subscriber to confirm their subscription.

This actually does address the buyer's remorse issue - if they change their mind in the few minutes that passes before receiving the confirmation email - they can just ignore it.

But if they do subscribe and have changed their mind there is a good chance they will opt for the spam button and not your unsubscribe link.

Happy to help out Mark:-) I guess this is why they call it user generated content.

But seriously, yes you are right the whole point of DOI/COI is to address subscriber remorse.... kudos to you for coming up with the concept!
