videotapeTesting can seem like an unwanted burden when you’re already pressed for time.

For those hesitating about its value, I’ve collated numerous examples of how email tests involving relatively minor effort have a big impact on results and responses.

You’ll find them all here.

If you’ve published any meaningful test results of a seemingly impressive nature, please let me know (or leave a comment here) and I’ll be happy to add them to the list and link to the source.

The article is part of an informal series providing you with the evidence you need to raise more resources for your email marketing efforts. Others are:

Why do email marketing?
Does segmentation work?

The test result about using the recipient's account manager in the subject line is a great idea! Something like "This is what Bob doesn't what you to know" will definitely get the recipient to open the email. I wonder if my email marketing solution (Campaigner) can do this type of 'mail merge' in the subject line.

About the fact that longer subject lines got higher open rates, I'm not so sure about that. I think it depends on what is in the subject line. Better copy beats longer copy always.

Hi Daniel. Yes, subject line length is a complicated issue. I think longer can work when there's more to tell. Like when you have a newsletter covering different topics. Otherwise, shorter is usually better. I wrote about the topic in detail here.

Thanks for compiling such a useful list of email marketing research!

Priority Integrated Marketing did an email marketing study of all our client data from the past three years, and gave a webinar on March 16th that outlined some of the key findings. Overall, we have data proving how strong content can not only improve loyalty, but also, lead generation stats.

A recording of the webinar, How to Effectively Reach Credit Union Members with Email Marketing, is here: http://priorityresults.com/blog/webinar-reaching-your-credit-union-members-effectively-with-email-marketing/

    Thanks!
